A long time has passed since the school bus rides filled with mix- cd tracks from my high school best friend filled my ears. We covered a lot of musical ground together, including the infamous metalcore era we were in the thick of. BMTH, bless the fall, sleeping with sirens, + OMAM. the inner 15 year old me was happy to tag along to this show and shoot the sounds of those long ass bus rides.
For those unfamiliar, Of Mice & Men's origins trace back to their formation in 2009 in California's vibrant music scene. With a name inspired by John Steinbeck's classic novel, the band has since evolved into a powerhouse of modern metalcore, blending elements of melody and aggression with a deft touch.
As the set unfolded, it became evident that the band's dynamic interplay and undeniable chemistry were the result of years spent honing their craft. Tracks like "Would You" and "Castaway" showcased their ability to seamlessly blend infectious hooks with blistering riffs, captivating the audience with each chord progression.
Frontman Aaron Pauley commanding presence and emotive delivery served as the perfect foil to the band's intricate instrumentation. His vocals soared over the crowd, carrying with them a sense of urgency and vulnerability that resonated deeply with fans.
But it wasn't all serious business. Between songs, the band members shared lighthearted banter with the audience, creating a playful atmosphere that kept spirits high throughout the night. From humorous anecdotes to heartfelt expressions of gratitude, their interactions added an extra layer of intimacy to the performance. As the night unfolded at The Triffid, it was hard to miss the infectious energy bouncing between the stage and the crowd. The band's raw intensity was met with enthusiastic cheers and spontaneous outbursts from the audience. Mosh pits erupted during the heavier tracks, while softer melodies prompted sways and singing.
As the evening drew to a close, as the last night of their AU tour - with the triumphant strains of "Second," it was clear that Of Mice & Men had left an indelible mark on The Triffid that night.
Thank you for having me along, Teamwrk Touring!
